About me

I am Nakhumicha Ruthbelah Makhanu, a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) with extensive experience in project accounting, financial planning & reporting, budgeting and stakeholders engagement. Currently, I serve as a Project Accountant for the Natural Products Industry (NPI) Program, a Kenya Vision 2030 Flagship Project anchored at the National Museums of Kenya (NMK). I am zealous about promoting transparency, accountability, integrity, quality and innovation. Adhering to requlatory compliant and professional accounting standards in both public and private sectors.

Additionally, I hold a Bachelor of Commerce from Kenya College of Accountancy (KCA) University. I present expertise in strategic marketing, influence consumer behaviour with great business acumen. Nakhumicha is committed to supporting the development of a vibrant natural products sub-sector by helping local communities, young champions (Youths) and county governments with invaluable insights, skills and competences in products development, value addition and market linkages.

Project Accountant

Core Goals

  • Prepare, analyze and report intergrated financial statements, reconcile cash books, and provide statutory monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports to the management.
  • Leads financial planning, budgeting & budgetary control, budget management, forecasting and day-to-day expenditure tracking for NPI Program.
  • Oversees project finances, monitoring expenditure, cost management and ensuring timely implementation of project activities within budget.
  • Participates in the National Treasury's Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) budgeting cycle at sub-sector and sector levels to mobilize funds for the project activities.
  • Develops persuasive funding proposals, aligning community and project needs with priorities of funding bodies.
  • Keeping accurate financial records for decision making
  • Maintaining books of account and implementing institutional internal controls.
  • Coordinates multi-site and multi-stakeholder field activities to forge partnerships with local communities including youths, county governments, Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI), Kenya Institute of Primate Research (KIPRE), Universities and on the other side NMK.
  • As a focal point for Young-Champions-for-Culture, trained through capacity building and mentored Young Champions to advocate for indigenous knowledge initiatives at county level.
  • Played a key role in preserving indigenous knowledge by documenting and digitizing it across counties as part of the NPI program agenda involving Young Champions as data enumerators.
  • Organized complex research activities and consultative meetings to negotiate agreements with local communities, county goverments and regulatory bodies like the Department of Culture and Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS).
  • Forge collaborations with both public and private partners.
